Today, I had the pleasure of hosting a Mizuhiki workshop at this lovely cafe in Leiden.

Everyone was really skillful and created beautiful Ume-musubi (plum knot) charms in their own chosen color combinations. It was wonderful to see each participant’s unique creativity come to life!

During the workshop, we enjoyed a Japanese tea drink and delicious sweets from the cafe, making the experience even more special. It seemed that everyone had a great time, and I certainly enjoyed spending time together.

Mizuhiki is a traditional Japanese craft used to express good wishes and meaningful connections.

Create your own Japanese celebration envelope using traditional Mizuhiki knots.

In this workshop, you will learn two beautiful knots:
・Awaji knot – a symbol of lasting connections
・Plum knot – representing happiness and good fortune

You will also learn how to fold a traditional envelope using Japanese washi paper, and combine it with Mizuhiki to create your own handmade gift envelope (Goshugi-bukuro).

未完（Incomplete）

ラナンキュラスの花の制作過程で、作品を横に避けた際、重なっていた花びらの層が崩れ、今のような配置になりました。本来は完璧に咲いた花を完成させる予定でしたが、この偶然に生まれた不完全な姿に静かな美しさを感じ、そのまま残すことにしました。

「未完」であることは、まだこれから花開く美しさを秘めているということ。

ラナンキュラスの花言葉のように、内に秘めた魅力や輝きが花開きますように。

During the process of creating a ranunculus flower, I moved the piece aside, and the layered petals collapsed into their current arrangement. I had originally intended to complete a perfectly blooming flower, but I was drawn to the quiet beauty of this accidental, imperfect form and chose to preserve it as it was.

To be “incomplete” is to hold a beauty that is still waiting to bloom.

Like the meaning of the ranunculus flower, this piece carries a wish that the charm and radiance hidden within will one day blossom.
